Meryam Joobeur is an Oscar-nominated Tunisian-American director. Her instinctual approach, infused with sensitivity, lends to emotionally powerful storytelling that is both topical and universal. Her short film Brotherhood won the Best Canadian Short Film award at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Short Film Conference's Short of the Year award, and was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the 2020 Academy Awards. Ultimately, the film garnered more than 70 awards, from over 150 festivals and shows, and across almost 50 countries.
