Hugo Thomas directed several award-winning short films before co-directing his first feature film, « Willy 1er », alongside Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma and Marielle Gautier. In addition to co-directing, he composed the film's score. « Willy 1er » was showcased in the ACID selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

His second feature film, « Juniors », competed at the 2022 edition of the International Independent Film Festival of Bordeaux. This rural teen movie, featuring Vanessa Paradis as a mother, received a special mention from the jury. Released in the summer of 2023, the film went on to win numerous awards both in France and internationally.
