Park Chan-Wook

Park Chan-Wook is a Korean screenwriter, producer, and director who is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in South Korea. Notorious for his immaculate framing, dark humor, and often brutal subject matter, the soul of his films stand out as a genre quite apart in Asian cinema. His collection of work includes Joint Security Area, which became the then most-watched film ever made in South Korea, Thirst, and The Handmaiden. Chan-Wook also created The Vengeance Trilogy, consisting of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Lady Vengeance. The films have been recognized in many film festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix for Old Boy. His English language works include Stoker and The Little Drummer Girl.

He won Best Director at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for his film Decision to Leave.
